Ingeborg Niestroy, Associate of the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD)

Ingeborg Niestroy will be the Rapporteur of the breakout session on Governance for sustainability.

She has worked for more than 15 years in sustainable development policies and multi-stakeholder processes. Inge is Associate of the International Institute for Sustainable Development and has researched on governance for sustainable development at national, European and international level in the context of various studies, inter alia for the Asia-Europe Foundation and the Bertelsmann Foundation. From 1999 – 2012 she was secretary-general of the European network of advisory councils for environmental policy and sustainable development (EEAC). In these functions she has contributed in the Rio+20 process and the subsequent development of the SDGs. She is geographer and received a PhD on decision-making processes with Strategic Environmental Assessment from the TU Berlin. Combining this strand of work with sustainable development, she was also part of the network of excellence LIAISE (Linking Impact Assessment Instruments to Sustainability Expertise), and is affiliated with the Environmental Policy Research Centre at the FU Berlin. She is currently also rapporteur of a European Commission Expert Group on the role of science, technology and innovation in implementing the SDGs. Since 2006 she has been Delegate to the Consultative Committee for Industrial Change (CCMI) of the EESC.
